What Services Do I Need?

What's the difference between home health aides and companions?

Home health aides have completed a rigorous training program and focus primarily on providing assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, exercise, ambulation, simple wound dressing and medication reminders.

Companions focus primarily on socialization. This may include engaging the client in sharing important memories from the past, going for walks, watching TV and/or movies together or playing games/cards.

What if the family needs help?

Private home care services can provide a great relief for family members who are often overwhelmed with responsibilities. We become a part of your team in the care of your loved one.

What about help with medications? Does a nurse do this, or can a home health aide help?

Medication management is the responsibility of a nurse. A home health aide can remind patients to take medication.

Are any of these services covered by Medicare? Are there any subsidy programs for this?

Medicare pays for homecare only when there is a need for "skilled" service providers to perform a task. Such services include nursing, physical therapy or occupational therapy. Medication management, however, is not considered a Medicare-reimbursable need.

Our team of experts will investigate any potential subsidy programs, including veteran's and long-term care benefits. Typically, however, private home care services are primarily paid for directly by the client and/or the client's family.

How do we know the person caring for our family member is safe?

Distinguished Care Options has a very extensive hiring process that includes a comprehensive background and reference check. We ensure that our caregivers are competent, compassionate and caring.
